B.2.1.A. March 26th (online session 5)

Hi there!
Here we are again! As promised, here's another video to know about vocaroo, padlets and using Skype in our classes:) Hope you like it.

By the way, did you check your speaking "vocaroo"in our padlet? You can learn a lot from the comments.

CLASS
Let's start with corrections: reading unit 6B, page 72.
Ex.2: the best summary is the third one. although 1 is true it doesn't explain the message from the whole article and 2 goes against the main message: that cyborg technology is part of most of our lives already.
Ex. 5. 1.allow, 2.let, 3. enable, 4. help, 5. prevent, 6. stop and 7 saves.
E.x. 6: 1. let, 2 help, 3 allow, 4 enable, 5 stop, 6 prevent and 7 saves
Ex. 7. Glass enable people with poor eyesiight to see better, 2. This medicine allows you to go to school if you have a cold, 3. The robot suit helps disabled people walk again, 4. Doing exercise prevents you from putting on weight, 5. The government hopes the advert will stop young people from becoming addicted to cigarettes. 6. Running machines save you from having to train in the rain. 7. This machine lets the nurses now if the patient stops breathing.

And check your pronunciation poem. Here's the key.

Then, move on to unit 6C. This time, we're going to focus on second conditionals . I know most of you already know it BUT in this unit, we'll go a bit further. Do first ex. 2, 3, 4, 5 page 74 and then move on to page 138 to know about "if only" and "I wish".
I think these to videos may help you: video1 and video2. Now do ex. 3,4,5 page 138.

Then, you can call one of your classmates and talk about ex. 6 and 7 page 75. Later, enter this webpage where you can read about different local first aid  courses in Madrid. Decide with your partner to read about one of them and tell him/her what you can  learn in this course, the price, when you can do it...(that's activity 9 page 75).

And to finish off, one more listening and writing activity: watch this video and write on the padlet your opinion: which tip do you find most useful? Why?

HOMEWORK:

  1. How would you survive "this terrifying lockdown weekend at home"?
My tips to survive to a terrifying lockdown.

Firstly, I must investigate about the real situation watching the news on television, reading them on the newspapers and looking for them on internet and you should advise your family.

Secondly, I should get all the necessary things at home to survive in that situation. I would basically need things like some comfortable clothes and shoes, food and water, batteries and lanterns, and I must put everything in a bag that would became your best friend if the situation becomes worse.

On third place, I must find some weapons like knives, guns or whatever that can be useful to protect myself. I don´t like zombies close to me.

On fourth place, I should look for a good series to see during the weekend.

And finally, If I were you I would keep calm because it is only a weekend.

    1. Good! That's a poem:) Harrinson.
Bear that in mind: "easier to keep on", "hope" is a noun
"doesn't flood", "it will help you".
The last point is too long. The sentence should be divided into two different ideas as it is hard to follow the point you're making (before so// after so).

    3. Watch a good TV serie, nowadays is very easy to find something to do at home, and watch a serie is a good idea is not as long as a film, and you can watch it in english to, so you will have a good time and maybe you will learn some vocabulary.

    4. Read a book. Do you remember that list that you wrote at the beginning of the year?? I'm sure that you wanted to read more, so this could be the best opportunity to achieve that goal, and open your mind.

    5. To conclude, you may use Skype or the phone if you don't like to use that kind of application to talk with your relatives.

  4. In my eyes, the best advice of the video is one that I've heard thousands of times... Breath! Each time that I've been under pressure, the best thing that I could do was to stay calm, in order to be focus, and think clearly. Nevertheless, I feel that I wouldn't be able to hum in a difficult situation, It would make me feel more stressed.

    1. I agree!
      Mind the spelling "Breathe"
"Breath" is the noun, whereas "breathe" is the verb.

    1. Good! I find number 2 pretty useful and number 1 crucial!
      Revise the following comments:
"to tell you", "but also for weekdays" "it will help you", "you are not allowed to feel" " as much as you can", "these pieces of advice" (uncountable)

  6. I definitely like all your tips...but would choose number 1 and 2.
Remember: don't repeat the same object "that recipe you never find enough time to make"
    "to plan"
    "organize" (omit to,not necessary).
"be ready" (here compulsory to omit "to" as it's an imperative).

  7. Let's check my fridge!)
    Please check the following:
    - "full of food", "you don't have to suffer from clautrophobia"
    - number 3 could be: "you shouldn't be thinking about going outdoors"?
    - "shouldn't go far from"
When I read the last point I wonder whether we all understand the USE of "have to". Remember this is used to indicate obligation. Here, you're giving advice, suggesting so other modals/ or phrases could be used: "you should", "you ought to", "if I were you, I would..."
